The Jordan River Book Club!

My initial thoughts about a Book Club for a 5 year old was positive but I really had no idea what to expect. Walter was not a big fan of reading and practicing the skills he was learning, on the other hand he was a huge fan of being read to. When he was invited to join the Jordan River book club I thought lets give it a try I am so glad that I did join. Book club has made Walter so excited about reading, without any coercion he will choose a book and ask me what do I think of his choice for book club. After seeing how well the children read and just their joy for being together and sharing their books I think it is a great idea for all children to be involved in a book club.

Who do you want to be when you grow up?

What do you want to be when you grow up or maybe a better question is who do you want to be when you grow up? We have all had time to decide and maybe our first choice wasn't the right choice. We don't have to wait until the end of 2007 to make a resolution we can decide and get started!

Girl Friends vs. The Game

Is it just me or has there been a major decline in the entertainment factor in Girlfriends? I remember the Monday nights when I would rush home to see Joan's outfits and imagine how I could pull together the same look or to hear Toni's quick wit that was so hilarious and cleverly written. The only conclusion that I can come up with is that the execs for the show pulled the writers from Girlfriends and sent them to write for The Game. Talking about a turn around. The Game went from a show that was comfortable to watch because the characters shared a common denominator with myself, familiar colloquialisms and skin color, to a hilarious and I can't wait to see if Derwin is going to get kicked to the curb show. Hopefully Girlfriends will turn around and we will go back to the days that I can only reminisce of when we watched Dwayne Wayne and Wittley Gilbert get married and then watch Khadijah James try to understand her gossip loving cousin Regine Hunter. Those were the days, back to back black humor. Will we ever get that back again we can only hope?

Elements of me

At almost the big 40 I can proudly say I am who I am because of events, wisdom learned easy and some learned the hard way, the love of God fearing family and certainly not the least because they are mentioned last I have to include the people that I have encountered along the way. This is what shapes and molds my mind, my heart and my spirit. What are you made up of?

I read the email from Words of Wisdom this morning and I thought back to Walter's vocabulary word 2 weeks ago habit, (psychology) an acquired pattern of behavior that often occurs automatically, (biology)the instinctive actions of animals and the natural tendencies of plants. We should all make it a habit to automatically and instinctively look at our problems from an approach of how big we know our God is!!

I looked at the news and thought about the people is California how they must feel that the out of control fires are bigger than they are we have to all pray for them to remember that God is bigger.
